John Shapland 1865-1929
John Shapland (1865-1929) was an artist from the South West of England. Many of his coastal scenes depict his beloved West country landscape, including views of Exmouth, Salcombe and Dartmoor. Painting mainly in watercolours, Shapland was principal of the Exeter school of Art, as well as a successful painter in his own right, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salons, and across America. He resided in Exeter.
