Before studying Ceramic Art at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle, Germany, Marieke was trained as a potter in Landshut, Bavaria. It was very important for her to learn as much as she could about clay, designing her own slips and glazes, firing techniques and how to solve problems before her studies of Ceramic Art. In the five years at University she found a way to express herself, to work from the heart and creating animal sculptures and exploring the relationships between humans and (other) animals.
Since 2015 she has lived and worked in Moretonhampstead, a small town located on Dartmoor.
